At the mouth of the Malpe River, about 6 km from Udupi, is the natural harbor of Malpe, an important fishing centre that enriches Karnataka's coastline with its wonderful beach. Varanga Kere Basadi is main attraction of the place and situated in the midst of a gentle green lake in Varanga. It seems like a lotus in a pond. This basadi is also called as Jalamandir and can be reached in a small wooden boat. Tranquil lake contrasts well with the sharp quadrilateral architecture of the basadi and gentle swaying hills at the distance. Then drive to Karkala known for single stone 41.5 feet statue of Gommateshwara (Lord Bahubali) - the second tallest in Karnataka. Then visit nearest Anekere Lake - a historic and scenic lake built in 12th century by an ancient king Pandyadeva to solve the problem of water scarcity. The 7 acres lake is full of clear water and adorned with beautiful white lilies. Then drive to Moodbidri and visit 1000 Pillar temple or Savira Kambada Basadi (Jain Temple) known for its magnificent pillars that are the hallmarks of this ancient place of worship. The temple was built by the local chieftain, Devaraya Wodeyar in 1430 and the current design was introduced in the year 1962. Then drive to Mangalore.
